The grounds of Historic Fort Wayne are home to a large number of buildings, making it a small community unto itself. A stable, hospital, and guardhouse are just a few of the buildings that have been located at the fort at various times, in addition to buildings such as this one, which provided housing for officers and non-commissioned officers. Seen here is the building known as number 114, which in the past was quarters for bachelor officers. Married officers had separate accommodations elsewhere on the fort, with sufficient room to support their families. In the background, the main barracks building of the fort can be seen rising above the fortress walls.
