The site chosen for Historic Fort Wayne's construction was on the banks of the Detroit river, at its narrowest (and thus closest) point with Canada. Pictured here is the main parade ground, which at one time was trod upon by soldiers marching in formation, but today is home to public events, evidenced here by the soccer nets visible in the distance. Visitors can also come and watch the massive great lakes freighters such as the one seen passing by here as they travel up and down the river, shipping their cargoes on one of the world's busiest waterways.
